John Strang

John is the elder statesman (or Godfather) and co-founder of TJ. He is the only nonteaching person in the company. His general background is in computing and accounting and he was I.T. manager in an engineering company, running a large IBM mainframe department for approximately 20 years (long hours/few holidays). He has an extensive knowledge of desk top publishing and this experience has proven invaluable in producing the high quality resources being provided to schools.

John is a widower who recently married Lesley, his partner of over 5 years. Previously a primary headteacher, she now helps in the running of the business. Between them they have 6 children, one of whom, Lynsey, is a Principal Teacher and two, John and Martin, now live in Australia. This involves lots of long distance travelling, cramped seats and numb derierres!

They also have 5 grandchildren who are pure delights and give an interesting slant on the use of Skype!

Tommy Strang

Tom, along with his brother John, was the co-founder of TJ in October 1994. He has always enjoyed writing maths materials during his teaching days at Paisley Grammar, Woodfarm High and Clydebank High where he took up the post of Principal teacher.

Tom is still writing and is also very much involved in visiting schools to promote TeeJay's resources and offer advice to head teachers and staff on how to implement and use these materials to enhance the new CfE courses.

Anne, his wife, was a Primary head teacher and fully supports the work of Tom and TJ. They have two children, Nicola, now a Modern Studies teacher in Clydebank High School and Gareth, who runs two businesses – driving school and laminate fitter.

Tom now has two fantastic grandchildren, Beth and Joshua.

Recently taken up cycling and just back from a 300 mile trek in darkest Ireland. No intention of giving up TJ yet – Still too much fun!!

Jim Geddes

Jim is married to Gail and has 2 boys, Mark who is a maths teacher and Richard, one of the lost generation... despite having a degree in Civil Engineering is lucky enough to have a job in marketing. Jim started his career at Johnstone High and then worked with Tommy at Clydebank High.

He has a myriad of ideas, and is (excruciatingly) good at picking up all Tommy's mistakes at the proof-reading stages. TJ could not have got to where it is now without Jim's' invaluable contribution. Jim went on to take up the post of principal teacher at Chryston High and then Renfrew High.

His hobbies are golf, which despite having a handicap of 7 some years ago, now couldn't hit a barn door and he also enjoys following his favourite team St.Mirren. Still going to the gym - but still the waistline expands - however, the swimming and the relaxation in the steam room (as well as the exercising) is most enjoyable. Also likes to bring on his own plants from seed and potter about in the garden – but there's the phone... it's Tommy – there's TJ work to be done!

James Cairns

As well as writing and producing for TeeJay Publishers, James teaches at Clydebank High School which provides him with the opportunity to identify the needs of the teacher and student and tailor materials accordingly.

After 14 years he still enjoys and is an enthusiastic part of the team spending much of his free time writing new (and adapting existing) materials for CfE.
